About Our Church (Updated on 08/31/10 )

Welcome to the Cleveland Bethel Church of the Nazarene website. Cleveland Bethel is a small church located on the Westside of, you guessed it, Cleveland. The church was founded in 1950 and has been reaching people in the community since its formation. Our church has much to offer. We have Sunday School for all ages and have contemporary and traditional services each week. Our mid-week service consists of prayer and a Bible study, which takes place on Wednesdays. Cleveland Bethel not only helps those who step inside our building, but outside as well. Our church has a strong homeless ministry in which we prepare, pack, and deliver food to the homeless in our area. We offer physical nourishment to the homeless as well as spiritual. Throughout the year, Bethel has many other activities and ministries going on.

Bethel participated in the 30 Hour Famine in February. We raised money by going door to door, by fundraising, and by having people sponsor us. This was all to help raise money for starving children all over the world. On the day of the Famine, we had a lock-in at the church and a group of us fasted for 30 hours to see what it was like to go hungry. Our end result was the raising of over $1500 (which is enough to feed at least four children for one whole year!)We even had a news camera crew come and film us during the famine.

Cleveland Bethel had a traditional Passover meal during Holy Week leading up to Easter this year as well. We celebrated the first Passover which was when God freed the Israelites from the Pharaoh in the land of Egypt. David Weiss, a Christian Rabbi came and led us in the traditions of the Passover meal. It was very interesting to learn more about Jewish traditions and performing this meal made the events of the past come alive to many who had attended.

We also had a teen night program which took place once a month over the summer of 2009. The teens would have a special meal for them like pizza to eat while the leader spoke on some important issues teens face. The teens were also allowed to ask their own questions about the Bible. The leader would always have scripture as the answer whether he was responding to teens’ questions or just discussing the concerns teens are facing today.

Our church held a fall festival on October 31st as a safe Christian alternative to Halloween. We had some carnival games in our parking lot and gave away candy for prizes. In addition, every child who showed up at our church carnival received a bible tract in their bags to take with them. This was a good outreach opportunity.

This is just some of the things that have gone on at Bethel this past year and we have much planned for the upcoming year including a new outreach program for the summer, a drive-in night, and much, much more. Come back to learn more about what Cleveland Bethel is doing and come by for a visit. All are welcomed into the family at Cleveland Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
